Why Do We Struggle With Long-Term Thinking?

This past week, I’ve been rethinking the timeline I’ve set for myself to hit some major goals.

You might already know this, but my life outside of creating is pretty full-on. I’ve got a full-time job, I’m studying for a bachelor’s degree in business, and I’m training for HYROX races.

Don’t get me wrong—I love it all. But my ultimate goal is to take on my personal brand full-time and become a value creator (thanks for being here in the early days!).

Right now, though, life has a way of throwing curveballs that stretch the timeline for the goals I’m so eager to achieve.

I like to think I’m bold but also realistic. So, when I take an honest look at how long this transition might actually take, a little part of me dies for a moment.

We all know deep down that good things take time. But let’s be real—accepting that when you’re itching to reach your dream, life is hard.

It also doesn't help that society conditioned us to believe that time is running out and that opportunities will vanish if we don’t take advantage of them within the next six months.

But here’s the truth: you have more time than you think.

There’s a quote by Matt Gray I love:
"Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast."

What I take from that is this: progress isn’t about rushing—it’s about moving with intention. When you approach your goals with care and attention to detail, you build something that lasts.

If your goal is to turn your passion into your full-time income, you’ve got to be okay with the groundwork—the long hours, the unseen effort, and sometimes seeing no results for a while. It’s about trading short-term wins for long-term success.

So, if you dream of becoming a full-time creator, remember this: building a personal brand you’re truly proud of—a sustainable, high-quality one—will take you further than rushing into everything without first building the foundations. But it takes time.

Be relentless in pursuing your goals, but give yourself permission to embrace the timeline for achieving them in a way that you can be proud of and sustain.

Hope this helped.

Talk soon,
Toby
